Overview

The Mardi Himal trek follows a forested ridge straight up from the Pokhara valley to high camp and the Mardi Himal viewpoint at 4,500 m. It's quieter than the classic Annapurna routes and delivers huge views for relatively little time.

Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Pokhara to Forest Camp

    Short drive to Kande and trek through forest.

    Max altitude: 2,520 m

  2. Day 2

    Trek to Low Camp

    Mossy forest and first mountain views.

    Max altitude: 2,970 m

  3. Day 3

    Trek to High Camp

    Above the treeline along the ridge.

    Max altitude: 3,580 m

  4. Day 4

    Mardi Himal viewpoint, descend to Low Camp

    Pre-dawn hike for sunrise.

    Max altitude: 4,500 m

  5. Day 5

    Trek to Siding village

    Descend to a traditional Gurung village.

    Max altitude: 1,750 m

  6. Day 6

    Drive to Pokhara

    Afternoon at leisure by Phewa Lake.

    Max altitude: 820 m

  7. Day 7

    Departure from Pokhara

    Onward travel.

FAQs

Do I need a guide for this trek?

Yes. Since April 2023, foreign trekkers in Nepal's national parks and conservation areas must trek with a government-licensed guide arranged through a registered agency such as Ascend DMC Nepal.

What travel insurance do I need?

Your policy must cover trekking up to the maximum altitude of the route and include emergency helicopter evacuation. We check your insurance before departure.

Can this trek be done privately?

Yes. Every trek is available as a private departure on any date, or you can join one of our fixed group departures.
